Ichikawa Sota (市川創太)
Architect and media artist, lecturer at the Tama Art University in Tokyo, Ichikawa’s recent interest lies in the relationship between the body and the space in which it exists. This relationship, Ichikawa sees has not only a confrontational dimension but also of a communicative one. The inevitable interaction between an entity and the surrounding is what he aims to explore in his audio-visual architectural environments. Collaboration with Seiko Mikami, Gravicells: Gravity and Resistance Project of 2004, investigates the natural phenomena of gravity against the human body. This installation allows the viewer’s body to experience the friction of the two opposing forces, gravity and resistance physically. As the body innately exists with the force of gravity upon it, this space which compress the two polar forces allows the body to shift the habitual sense of gravity, furthermore alters the awareness of one’s body in a given space. Ichikawa currently lives and works in Tokyo.
