Born 1970, Gifu, Japan. One of the leading contemporary artist of the new generation, Omaki’s bases his works on installations that play with conjuring up ambiguity of two spaces which audiences usually sense as completely severed; the “artistic” (one of the installation) and the “real” space (one of our everyday lives). One example of which is where he installed hands that hold on to straps, as if on the train, within the gallery/exhibition space. The “artistic” space intervening in the mundane spaces we experience daily is his main concern and interest which create subconscious confusion and uneasiness on part of the audience who experience the created space.
In 2006, Omaki participated in the Ssamzie Space Studio Program as a residency artist. Omaki currently lives and works in Tokyo.
