Otomo Katsuhiro (大友克洋)

Born 1954, Miyagi, Japan. Hailed as possibly the most internationally acclaimed animation director since his production of Akira (1982-86), Otomo was also greatly influenced by preceding animation studios such as the Mushi Production and Toei Doga during his childhood. Works such as Gigantor (Tetsujin-28-Go) and Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atomu) pushed Otomo to aspire a career in animation. Some of his representative works are, Jiyū wo Warera ni (1982), Memories (1996), Metropolis (2001) and his most recent works Mushishi (2006) which was made into a live-action film. Even with a rich and prolific career already under his belt, Otomo’s contribution to extend the limits of animation is yet to cease, working as a colossal inspiration for future generations of animation directors.
